In the heart of Chassagne-Montrachet, this climate has quite a morbid history. Maltroie comes from the medieval latin martyretum then Martroi : "graves of the martyrs". This as a reference for many alleged christian burial sites on this hamlet, the oldest dating back to the gallo-roman era, mort from the IVth century. These were used as a place of worship for the faithful passing by or during religious holidays ; since Charlemagne and the end of the VIIIth century. This parcel exposed to the east on a bank of clayey marls under a limestone cornice. With a small relief, it is a fresh climate with a rich and thick soil which produces complex wines between delicate fruit and a concentration of spicy notes.
